Migraines are NOT Just "Bad Headaches"

Understanding and Managing Migraines with LUMINAS Relief Patches

With no cure, migraines are listed as one of the ten most disabling medical diseases in the world. Due to migraines’ side effects, more than 90% of people affected by migraines experience interference with their career, education, and social outings.

It is estimated that 1 in 4 households in America has a member with migraine and that 1 in 7 people are affected by the disease globally. Despite these grave figures, fewer than 5% have been seen by a health care professional and have received appropriate care for the condition.

Common Symptoms of Migraine

The most common symptom of Migraine is severe and intense head pain that is difficult to manage. This is due to the body’s pain tolerance being lowered during triggered states. This pain can also be translated into a throbbing or pulsing sensation. Pain will typically worsen with movement of any kind. Although this is a common symptom, migraines can be experienced without pain. These are called “silent migraines.” Other common migraine symptoms include nausea and vomiting, as well as sensitivity to light, smells, and sounds. Extreme symptoms include brain fog, temporary memory loss, visual auras, and momentary blindness. Learn more about managing severe headaches.

Stages of Migraines

Migraines are experienced in four stages: prodrome, aura, attack, and postdrome. Most people do not experience every step of a migraine, with only roughly 20% of people experiencing the aura phase.

Prodrome and Aura

Prodrome and Aura precede the painful headache by several hours or even days. During this phase, the body indicates that an attack may be imminent by excessive tiredness, mood swings, difficulty concentrating, and food cravings. 75% of people experience the prodrome phase but fail to recognize that these indicators are the beginning of an attack.

Auras occur directly before an attack and cause people to experience vision changes, tingling, numbness, or trouble speaking. Visual disturbances such as seeing spots, zig-zags, flashes, or losing sight for a short period are typical of those who experience auras. Learn more about visual auras.

Attack Phase

The attack phase of migraine is categorized as painful. This is when intense head pain occurs, typically partnered with nausea and vomiting with sensitivity to environmental factors such as light and sound. Discover tips for managing severe pain.

Postdrome

Postdrome is the final phase of migraine and is typically described as a “migraine hangover.” During this phase, the body attempts to recover from what it just experienced. The body may experience body aches, fatigue, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, and sensitivity to light. Learn more about postdrome recovery.

Treatments for Migraine

There are two types of treatment for Migraine: acute and preventative. Acute medications are taken as an intervention during an attack to relieve pain and prevent the migraine from worsening. Prevention medication is taken to avoid the occurrence of an attack and reduce the frequency, severity, and length of attacks. Unfortunately, people who decide to take preventative medication are typically off their prevention within 12 months due to their harmful side effects. LUMINAS Relief patches are designed to help provide you relief with none of those harmful side effects. LUMINAS Relief rounds can be worn behind your ears to help alleviate symptoms of migraine. Medium and Large Patches can be worn at the base of your neck to help your headache. Learn more about natural pain relief.
